I get a lot of this question from my interactions with many business owners who have taken the first step towards creating a website for their business. They created the website but it doesn’t just seem to add any benefit to their business. Worse still, they are faced with the dilemma of seeing competitors’ websites with less aesthetic design appear on search engines. They start wondering how such a low quality website (because in most cases, they have great products and better design than their competitors) can outrank them on Google search engine.
The first point you need to know is that your website is your online store front for your company. Your website is your PR to the rest of the world. Even when you are asleep, your company’s website is at work . So you have to treat it the same way you traditionally would treat your physical office. That is the first and most important method. Give your website a good look, correct spellings and avoid broken links.
So how do you go about promoting your website?
1. Consider good old traditional method:
As expensive as it may seem, traditional advertising method still works. So make flyers, place ads in local Radio and TV stations, send out newsletters to your clients, and you can also give press releases . Just make sure you have your website mentioned in all your means of advertising.
2. Organic SEO:
With the introduction of search engines, optimizing your website will help you become more visible on the internet. As your visibility increases, so will your website become more popular especially if you can rank on the first page of SERP. Who would not trust a website that appears on the 1st page of Google organic ranking?
3. Pay per Click
Pay per Click is another method you can use to promote your website. While it may seem more expensive than organic SEO, Pay per Click enables your website to get shown to a large number of audiences. Also you have the benefit of appearing on the first page of search engines regardless of optimization or not.
You can also easily promote your website by adding a blog to it. Today every business has become a publishing house, you therefore cannot afford to overlook this method. Create a blog and consistently post interesting and related content on it. When you do, if your audience finds your content interesting, they will keep coming back to it and might even recommend it to a friend . Best practice when doing blogging is to avoid using third party blogging platform. Host your own blog. This way you can maximize the benefit it will give your website.
5. Run a promo/Contest:
Another method of promoting your website is to run a promo on social media or a contest and then direct contestant back to your website to claim their prize or follow an instruction.
6.Give out something free :
Everyone loves a free gift. Either it’s a free e-book, or gift voucher, giving out free gifts can help you pass the information around quickly about your website . It also will increase your brand awareness and can send traffic to your website.
If you want to continue promoting your website, you need to consistently look for ways to improve your method. Look at what your competitors are doing and you might get one or two inspiration from the way they promote their site.
Have you used any method in promoting your website that is not listed here ? Please share them.
