Is Your SEO Company Crap

February 20, 2014 By Adegboye Adeniyi

Please, how can I buy traffic?

All these SEO craps are not working!!

This was a desperate cry of someone seeking web traffic.

This is usually the cry of most marketers and CEO that want traffic for their website and sincerely speaking there are various SEO agencies that disappoint me.

I once had a very interesting conversation with a particular individual who was saddled with the task of optimizing a website and was at the stage of keyword implementing. Apparently she got stuck and her CEO asked her to call me. The CEO had read one of my articles on a leading newspaper so she instructed her to call me to help her unravel the tangle she created.

She called me and was asking me where to place her keyword on the website. I inquired why she was targeting that particular keyword and her response was that she felt that was the keyword to use. I then went ahead to ask her if she had heard about the Google keyword planner.

Her response was a no.

Yet, this was someone optimizing an e-commerce website.

Huh

So granted, there are crap SEO agents out there and you have to filter out the real SEO company who is not afraid to tell you that what you want is wrong if it violates the Google guidelines. Most time, this type of SEO will work out on you.

And then there are the crappy ones who actually will take your money and build crappy links to your site. That being said, sometimes the business owners are the architect of their own failure and that is why crappy agents will always have a field day feasting on them.

There are various ways to get website traffic and buying traffic using paid adverts is one of them. The purpose of this post is to give you valuable insight that will help you:

1. Not get into the hands of crappy SEO’s
2. Help you manage your expectations when it comes to getting traffic through organic means so that you don’t end up saying

“Please, how can I buy traffic? All these SEO craps are not working”

#1  SEO is not an end in itself but a means to an end:

Businesses are in the business of making money. One way to make money in this fast-paced age is to build a rich online brand presence for your business and then drive traffic to your business. As a result, you turn to the internet and try all methods especially organic search since you heard the ROI is high and it is a sure means of getting traffic to your website.

What marketer and CEO fail to realize is that SEO is just a single part of the equation. SEO will not give you more sales. It is only a starting point in a long journey towards more sales for your business. Once you have that at the back of your might, the right is easy. Here is a simple equation that explains how sales can be gotten online.

SEO = More Traffic + Conversion = Sales = More money= Your desired holiday gateway

#2 You have to build a solid foundation first:

Do you want traffic to your website but you have a lousy website? Let be sincere.

Now go do a little soul-searching. If you were to visit your own website, will you buy from yourself? The basis of any optimization should be after you have produced a good product and designed a great website. SEO will drive people to your website but what is your offering?

Is your website crappy? Do all links works? Do you have enough explanation for me as to what your product is and what are the steps I should take?

#3 Rome was not built in a day

If you a want to be frustrated with your SEO, try getting immediate results in a week or even 3 months. Most SEO knows that you cannot get results until after a minimum of 90days and I don’t even think you will be ranking on first page by then. Rome is a beautiful city but it took ages to build and that is why we have the saying today “Rome was not built in a day”.

SEO requires a lot of patience and this patience will even be tested more if you are in a very competitive niche.
The more competitive your industry, the more patience, time and resources you need to put into “beating“the people who are occupying these positions you covert. These people won’t sleep and except you catch a competitor at its weak point, it won’t be an easy task. So don’t rush it. Results from SEO do not take forever but it does take a long time.

Now, let’s assume you have an e-commerce store and you want to compete for the keyword “online shopping”. If you run a search for that keyword on Google, you are going to see the following result. In this result, there is high competition for the keyword both on the organic ranking and

Paid Advertisement. Only a good SEO strategy will get you ranking for this same keyword.

#4  Follow your SEO advice or die

Fortunately, I have been very privilege to work with people who understand that there are rules to everything and that when you play by the rules, your life becomes easier.

Yet there abound stories of people who employed SEO’s and give them a herculean task of getting traffic and ranking anyhow or get fired. So “some”, though I do not think any SEO worth their salt will agree to do this, will tend to go to any length to get you the traffic you want or the ranking you want. This seemingly success will be short-lived because after a while, Google will catch up with their techniques and guess what? Your SEO is crap.

Google do not care who does your SEO. If you do it wrong, you get the wrong result and you will be lucky if you do not get penalized. You then have to bear the consequence of losing money, time and reputation for your business.

Now, I will like to throw back this question at you.

Really, is your SEO Crap?
