Do you want to drive organic traffic to your website?
Are you an online marketer in charge of your company’s SEO project or are you a C-suite executive who want his company to leverage SEO.
Then you are in luck. This is because today I am sharing with you SEO secrets that can make or kill your website optimisation project either right now or in the future.
Online marketing has come to stay and has it matures, there will be a lot of people who will claim to be able to help you drive traffic to your website.
Not everyone will be a liar, but then not everyone will tell you the whole truth. This is why it is important to understand this little secret I will be sharing probably for the first and only time on this today.
The advantages SEO offers to a business is numerous. Some of these advantages are
- Cheap and free consistent long term traffic- If you have ever invested in paid marketing, you have an idea of what I am talking about
- Highest conversion rate – Leads that come in through organic traffic are usually pre-qualified. This means it is easy to convert them into paying customers
Despite this advantages not everyone will be successful using it to grow their website and therefore indirectly their business.
This is because there are little nuggets of wisdom that are important when you want to leverage SEO. Unlike other marketing channels, SEO is actually the simplest but yet most controversial marketing channel out there.
Learn these secrets and share it with your team.
- Blogging is not equivalent to traffic
I am sure you must have heard the advice that the best way to gain traffic is to start a blog on your website.
The truth is simply that having a blog does not:
- Translate to traffic
- Translate to ranking high on SERP
Blogging for the simple reasons of blogging does not translate to traffic. This is because your blog must
- Be about topics and issues your customers want to know about.
If topics you are creating are not topics your client want to read about and it is not related to your business, then having a blog will not influence your traffic in any way. This is why keyword research is the fundamental of everything we do in SEO.
Either we are creating home pages, services pages, landing pages, social media post content or looking for topics to write a blog post around, we always turn on our keyword tools.
- Get to your audience for them to read it
Not only do writing the right type of content important for your traffic, you must get this content right in front of your prospective and current customers. This might mean paying to promote your content so that the right set of people sees it or getting influencers to share it.
If you ever have a blog and it is under-performing, fixing these two issues is enough to turn it around.
- SEO is not equivalent to successful business
In the real world SEO is not equivalent to a successful business. There is a difference between getting traffic to your website and building a business.
If all you are depending on is organic traffic to grow your business then you might be losing out on the potential power of the other online marketing channels.
SEO might seems like the best way to grow a business because it tells you it can send you qualified traffic but there is a place for SEO in a business just as there are spaces for other marketing channels.
I have slowly grow this website and my business on SEO traffic alone but this is because I have other streams of income to depend on.
If you are depending on only SEO, then it must be because your keyword has a high volume of traffic that people converting are enough to help you build a business.
- SEO is marketing
I have sat down in meetings where the C-suite executive does not understand the power of online marketing. To some of them, it is a new nuisance they have to deal with.
What they have failed to realise is that SEO is marketing and you need to treat it as such. SEO can bring in leads that are over qualified that you need do just a little to convert them into customers.
This is because SEO brings you people who are currently looking for your services. They may not buy from you the first or second time they visit your website. But as they look around and they noticed that you appear to be the best, they definitely will come back over and over again.
The earlier your executive understand this concept that SEO is about marketing, the better for your business.
- SEO is not cheap:
Because of the definition of SEO, a lot of businesses believes SEO is cheap. Unfortunately this is further from the truth.
As raised in the point above, SEO is marketing and marketing are not cheap. If you are building your own team, then you need to deal with the nuisance of paying salaries and the rest. If you are outsourcing, then your SEO provider also have to deal with this.
And if you are going the DIY method, then you need to invest in learning SEO.
This in itself is not cheap. Other reasons why SEO is really an investment are
- You need to get your website right in order
- You need to create this content
- You need to promote it
- You need to invest in tools to help you analyse your strategy.
- Link Building is the sauce of SEO
A lot has been written about link building. The type, kind and quality of links your website has might be the only major difference between a first-page ranking or not.
Google wants you to build links, but they also want you to get the right kind of links. This means that not all links are created equally.
For now do not listen to anyone who tells you that link building is dead. Old tactics of building links might be dead and we are referring to tactics that promise you 1000 link for $10 dollars, but the standard practice of getting relevant quality links has never died.
If you are investing in SEO, then you need to understand how your provider or in-house team are going to start getting links to your website.
- Do not listen to anyone who frets over Google
As SEO’s we tend to fret a lot about what Google says or what they do not say. In the past, I used to but I have come to learn from experience that all Google wants to do is to present the best result for their users.
This means if you position your website, resources or whatever it is you want Google to send traffic to, in the best and positive manner, then Google will reward you by ranking your website.
At that stage, you will not worry if Google uses 2000 ranking signals or not. All you need to worry about is
“How do I create something (website) that people will love to visit, buy from me, recommend or even share”.
If you seek to answer this question everything you do anything on your website, then you are on your way to a successful optimization not only in 2016 but also beyond.
